Since starting out doing Permanent Eyebrows many years ago one subject that has always come up when discussing eyebrow hair loss is the dreaded Menopause and Peril menopause!
Losing eyebrow hairs isn’t necessarily the first symptom that springs to mind when thinking about menopause but believe it or not the Menopause it has a huge effect on hair growth on the whole body not just the hair on your head.
Many Woman coming to me have noticed that their eyebrows had suddenly become thinner, and sparser with some patches of hair disappearing altogether. I’ve even had some lose their eyebrows completely over the space of a few months.
But why is this happening? What’s actually happening within the body during the menopause that causes these changes?
•Of course the biggest cause is hormonal changes, particularly the drop in oestrogen levels. Oestrogen plays a vital role in hair growth, leading to slower growth of the eyebrows and when it finally grows through, the hairs are noticeably thinner and sparser.
•The hair follicles become weaker during the menopause. Meaning they cannot support the growing hair like it once could, leading to some of the follicles not growing a hair at all anymore.
•All body hair grows in stages. There are 3 stages to a hair’s life. The drop in oestrogen shortens the Anagen phase (this is the growing phase) and lengthens the Telogen phase (the hair shedding phase) meaning that the hairs fall out for a longer period of time and don’t get chance to grow for as long, again resulting in a noticeable thinner, gappy eyebrow.
After reading all these factors it’s a miracle if anybody’s eyebrows aren’t affected during the menopause!
What can I do to improve my Eyebrows?
•Take Biotin- Biotin is a member of the Vitamin B family and can be found in foods such as eggs, milk and bananas. It helps grow hair faster and thicker and can also be taken as a supplement.
•Eyebrow serums- These can help to encourage hair growth but have to be used continuously for them to show any improvement
How can Permanent Eyebrow treatment help?
Permanent eyebrows and Microblading can mimic real eyebrow hairs filling in any gaps that you have and make your eyebrows look more even, symmetrical and thicker. It is a great time saving option freeing you from the chore of having to fill them in every day. For many of my ladies it has given them a much needed confidence boost and taken away the worry of losing eyebrow hair.
Permanent eyebrows involve implanting pigment under the skin to give the illusion of eyebrow hairs. They can be as dramatic or as natural as you would like with many colour options (No black, slug eyebrows here ladies!) And once healed they are good to go requiring minimal maintenance every 12-18 months.
If this sounds like something you are interested in and want more information you can come for a free consultation. Durig this appointment we will discuss your brow options, look at styles and colours you like and answer any questions you have about the procedure.
