Semi Permanent Eyebrows – What’s it all about?

Eyebrows are so on trend at the minute, and it’s a trend that is not looking like it slowing down any time soon. You may have tried waxing, HD Brows and Brow lamination but have you ever thought of something more permanent?

That’s where Semi Permanent Eyebrows comes in! Never again will you have to draw your eyebrows in! You have more than likely have heard of them before but what are they and what does the treatment involve? In this blog I will cover all aspects of the treatment and answer the questions I get asked the most.

So firstly what actually is it?

Semi Permanent Eyebrows ( also known as microblading) involves implanting pigment into the upper layers of the skin giving the illusion of hairs and colour. This fills in any gaps to the brows giving you that perfect shape 24/7!

So its just like a normal tattoo?

The moment you hear the word tattoo you instantly think of tattoo gun, big black pigment. But forget about those images. Yes, Semi Permanent Eyebrows are a form of tattooing but the application method, pigments and needles used couldn’t be any more different. Firstly the pigment is implanted a lot shallower than a body tattoo is. It is implanted just under the skin. This is what makes it semi permanent as apposed to permanent. Because it is closer to the surface the colour fades eventually which gives you the freedom to change colour and shape if you ever want to. The pigments used are also completely different. They are made specifically for the face and are made to fade really naturally and also to look really natural when implanted into the skin. The needles are also super, super fine, made to use in the delicate eyebrow area.

How long do they last?

If all aftercare is followed correctly it normally lasts around 12 months. At this point the brows will need a colour boost which is where I will just go back over the eyebrows and just freshen up those hair strokes and colour. A huge factor in the longevity of your brows is your skin type and aftercare. Everybody’s skin is different so some skins will retain for longer than others. This is why your annual colour boost is so important to keep them looking their best. I will know what skin type you are from working on it so I can advise you. Aftercare is also super important. The better you look after them the longer they will last! If you are a sun worshipper who goes on holiday a lot and uses sunbeds without SPF your brows will never last as long as someone who always used Sun protection.

Does it hurt?

This is one of the main questions I always get asked. The truth is that is completely different for everyone! I have had some clients report some mild discomfort whereas others have said they don’t even feel it. Brows are numbed throughout the procedure so if you do feel any discomfort it will be minimal!

What happens during the procedure?

Your appointment begins with your new brow design being created. this is done through measuring and drawing out your brows. Once we are both happy with the design then I will then choose your pigment colour. Once that is done lie back, relax and I will begin! Once finished you will come back 5-6 weeks later for your top up appointment where I will touch up any areas that need it.

Is there different colours I can have I? I don’t want them too dark!

Yes! there is a full range of colours ranging from your very light blondes right through to your very dark brunettes and everything inbetween! Your pigment will be matched as much as possible to your hair colour and skin tone. The aim is for your brows to blend perfectly and look completely natural. Don’t worry you are fully involved in the colour choosing process! Immediately after your brows will look quite dark, this is completely normal and your colour will heal about 40% lighter once fully healed!

Will you shave my eyebrows off?

I get asked this question all the time. The answer is no, When I am designing your new brows I will incorporate as much of your brow hair into the deisgn as possible. This keeps them looking as natural as possible! If there are hairs that I don’t want to include in te final design I will tweeze these out. At the end of the treatment I will show you where I have removed the hairs so that you know which areas to keep on top of with the tweezers!

Do I need to have a consultation?

You will need a patchtest and free consultation. No treatments will be done without a patchtest so make sure you attend this 15 minute appointment. Here we can go through any questions you have, I can fully explain the procedure, apply your patch test and i will do a basic map of your brows so you can see what they will look like once they are done. We will also go through the pre-treatment advice and go through a few medical questions.

How do I look after my new eyebrows

Your fresh eyebrows will take around 5-6 weeks to fully heal. For the first 7 days keep the brows completely dry. The pigment will dry out and the brows will start to flake. This is completely normal, let the dry patches come away by themselves. Do not pick them off as this will remove the colour from the skin. This process lasts for a couple of weeks. Do not apply any makeup to the eyebrows for the full 6 weeks. I would also avoid steamers, saunas, facials and sun exposure in this time until they are fully healed. After 5-6 weeks you will return for your top up appointment where I will touch up any areas that need it.

How often should I get them redone?

Your eyebrows will need to be redone every year or so. This keeps the shape, colour and hair strokes looking fresh.

How much are Semi Permanent Eyebrows?

They are £270. This includes your first treatment and your top up treatment 6 weeks later. Annual colour boosts are £150. Please note this is only if I did your brows originally.

Lovely place to visit. Lucy is brilliant to deal with, listens to your requirements but also gives advice, which is very useful as sometimes as you wouldn’t think of some of the ideas and they could be better. She knows what she’s talking about and doing so makes it easy to trust her judgement and not worry about the results. Would definitely recommend.

I have gone from having absolutely no eyebrows and having to spend time everyday pencilling them in, to being able to get up and not think about them at all, it has completely changed my face, saved me lots of time and I absolutely love them. Thank you, Lucy, true professional!
